Youth in Kyrgyzstan. Bridging Tradition and Modernity

Youth in Kyrgyzstan. Bridging Tradition and Modernity

A look at young people is always a look at the future of a region. Members of the younger generation are highly sensitive observers of the political, economic and cultural developments in their home countries because they are existentially dependent on personal opportunities for development. In no other age group can sociocultural change be recognized as early and as clearly as among young people. In order to gain an insight into the lives of young people in Kyrgyzstan, the project “Perspectives for Youth” of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH commissioned Sinus to conduct this qualitative baseline study on youth in Kyrgyzstan. The study reveals everyday attitudes, values, role models, wishes and expectations of young people and thus provides a basis for addressing the actual needs and expectations of young people in the project and in the services offered by Kyrgyz youth work.
